By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jimmy Rojas, who recently walked free from a murder charge, was back in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week—this time for possession of a knife.
Rojas appeared unrepresented and pleaded guilty to carrying a black-handled knife with a six-inch silver blade, which police found on him along Mahogany Street on August 28. He claimed the blade was part of his trade as a construction worker but was unable to explain why he needed it at the time.
The Magistrate accepted his plea and imposed a fine of $50 plus $5 court costs, which Rojas must pay by the end of today or face two weeks in prison.
Rojas also still owes $805 from a separate theft conviction, which is due by September 30. Failure to pay could land him eight months behind bars.
