Burton Claire, Kareem Allen walk free as former City Councilor Deannie Requena no-show in court in case where she was allegedly ran off road, stabbed, robbed

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City men accused of stabbing and robbing a High Court Clerk are free after the case was struck out for want of prosecution.

Burton Claire, 31, and Kareem Allen, 22, appeared this morning in Court #5 to face trial over allegations that they attacked and robbed High Court Clerk Deannie Requena of $3,000 in August 2024. However, after the matter was stood down for nearly an hour, the Magistrate dismissed the charges when the complainant failed to appear.

Inside the courtroom, charges of wounding and use of deadly means of harm against Claire and aggravated assault and theft against Allen were all struck out.

Outside court, both men expressed relief but also admitted they were shaken by a shooting incident near the Magistrate’s Court earlier in the day. Claire maintained that they were innocent from the start and that the complainant had made a false statement, while Allen insisted the money he was accused of stealing was his own.

The duo had previously spent time on remand before securing High Court bail, but with today’s ruling, they walk away free of all charges.
