By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sagitun GIRLZ FC captured the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Pre-Season Tournament title on Saturday, defeating Napoles FC 1–0 in the final after both clubs topped their respective groups in a tightly packed one-day event at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
The tournament featured six teams split into two groups, each playing two matches to determine the finalists. Sagitun GIRLZ and Napoles FC emerged unbeaten from Group B and Group A respectively, setting up a clash between the south’s dominant force and the Capital-based newcomers.
Sagitun GIRLZ opened their campaign in Group B with a 2–0 win over Jaguar Girls, thanks to goals from Kenya Perez in the 20th minute and Elizabeth Ryan in the 22nd. They followed up with a 1–1 draw against Jewel Fury FC, where Perez again found the net in the 7th minute before Shadette Lino equalized just before halftime in the 43rd. Jewel Fury later defeated Jaguar Girls 2–0, with Shamika Lambey scoring in the 30th and Aubrey Wagner adding another six minutes later. Both Sagitun and Jewel Fury finished the group stage with four points and identical goal differences, but Sagitun advanced to the final based on their higher tournament ranking as reigning PWLB champions.

In Group A, Napoles FC dominated with two emphatic wins. They thrashed Cayo Dreamers FC 8–0, led by Jayda Brown’s hat trick (9’, 25’, 34’) and goals from Heidi Lopez (12’, 31’), Tanya Teul (13’), Khalydia Velasquez (32’), and Ashley Rodriguez (49’). Napoles then secured their spot in the final with a 4–1 win over Corozal Elite FC, with Khalydia Velasquez (16’) and Roshanny Narvaez (28’, 30’, 47’) on target. Corozal’s lone goal came from Noriely Herrador in the 13th minute. Corozal later defeated Cayo Dreamers 6–0, powered by Alisha Terry (5’), Dania Villa (30’, 35’, 44’), and Kaite Jones (42’, 46’).
In the final, Sagitun GIRLZ sealed the title with a 13th-minute goal from Danellie Black and held off Napoles’ attacking threats to finish the day unbeaten.
