By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Week 5 wraps up on Sunday, August 31, at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, where league leaders Progresso FC visit Wagiya SC in a coastal clash with major implications.
Progresso top the table with eight points from four matches, having scored ten goals and conceded just three. Their balanced attack and sturdy defense have made them the early pace-setters, and a win in Dangriga would extend their unbeaten run and solidify their lead.
Wagiya, meanwhile, sit sixth with just one point. They’ve scored twice and conceded nine, and will need a strong showing at home to avoid falling further behind. The Carl Ramos Stadium crowd will be hoping for a spirited performance to disrupt Progresso’s rhythm.
With Verdes and Belmopan battling the night before, Sunday’s fixture could either widen Progresso’s lead or compress the top tier—depending on results across the weekend. A win for Progresso would keep them atop the standings regardless of Saturday’s outcomes. For Wagiya, the match is a chance to regroup and challenge the rhythm of a title contender. Expect a physical contest, especially in midfield, where Wagiya will attempt to slow the tempo and frustrate Progresso’s build-up play.
