By Breaking Belize News Staff: Generally fair weather conditions are expected to prevail across the country today, according to the National Meteorological Service of Belize.
The forecast calls for sunny skies with a few cloudy spells during the day and clear to partly cloudy skies tonight. Showers or thunderstorms will be isolated, although a few more may develop this afternoon over inland areas and the Maya Mountains.
Winds will remain light and variable, keeping sea conditions slight with wave heights between one and three feet. Temperatures are forecast to reach highs of 89°F along the coast, 95°F inland, and 83°F in the hills, with nighttime lows of 82°F, 73°F, and 68°F respectively.
At 3:00 a.m., Hurricane Erin was centered near latitude 34.2N and longitude 72.1W, or about 205 miles east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Erin is moving north-northeast at 17 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.
The system poses no threat to Belize. Meanwhile, a tropical wave located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce showers and thunderstorms as it moves west-southwest at 15 miles per hour. Environmental conditions are only marginally favorable for development and the system poses no threat to Belize.
Looking ahead to Friday and Friday night, forecasters expect similar fair conditions with only isolated showers or thunderstorms.
A few more showers or thunderstorms may occur over southern areas Friday night. Today’s high tide was at 8:19 a.m. and will occur again at 9:39 p.m., while low tide will be at 3:39 p.m. and again at 2:40 a.m. on Friday. The sun rose at 5:36 a.m. and will set at 6:14 p.m. this evening. The moon will set at 5:23 p.m. today and rise again at 4:59 a.m. on Friday.
