By Breaking Belize News Staff: The National Meteorological Service is forecasting a shift to fairer weather across Belize today, with drier conditions gradually taking hold after a moist morning start.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms affected parts of the country earlier this morning, but those are expected to diminish this afternoon and evening. Sunshine is set to dominate most areas, except over the Maya Mountains, where thunderstorms could flare up later in the day.
Boaters and coastal residents can expect favorable marine conditions, with slight seas, light winds, and waves no higher than 3 feet. Inland residents should brace for warm temperatures, peaking at 95°F, while coastal highs will reach 89°F. Cooler conditions will prevail in the hills, topping at 78°F.
Meanwhile, forecasters continue to monitor Hurricane Erin in the Atlantic. At 6:00 a.m., Erin was located 170 miles north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, packing winds of 125 mph. The Category 3 hurricane poses no threat to Belize as it moves away to the west-northwest.
Looking ahead, forecasters say Monday will bring mainly fair and warm weather nationwide, with only isolated showers expected and limited thunderstorm activity confined to the Maya Mountains.
Sunset today is at 6:17 p.m., with tomorrow’s sunrise scheduled for 5:36 a.m.
