By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is in mourning following the passing of former Parliamentarian and respected statesman, Honorable Arthur “Turo” Roches.
In an official statement released by the UDP Parliamentarian Caucus, the party expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Roches, highlighting his contributions to Belize’s political landscape.
Roches, who represented his native Dangriga in the National Assembly from 2008 to 2012, also served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. His legacy within the party and the nation is marked by his unwavering dedication to public service and his commitment to improving the lives of the Belizean people.
“His dedication to public service, commitment to the people of Belize, and steadfast loyalty to our Party will always be remembered,” the statement read from Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton read. The UDP emphasized the profound impact Hon. Roches had on those around him and recognized him as a stalwart figure in their organization.
The party called upon its members and the wider Belizean community to join in commemorating Roches’ life, which was dedicated to the service and betterment of Belize. “We join those who mourn his passing and in celebrating a life devoted to service,” the statement concluded, extending prayers for his soul to Rest in Eternal peace.
The Leader of the Opposition expressed her sorrow over the loss and highlighted the need for collective reflection on the values and principles Roches stood for during his lifetime.
