By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has rescheduled its National Convention (NC) to Sunday, November 30. This decision was made during a virtual meeting of the National Party Council (NPC) held on Tuesday evening August 5, where the motion to change the date from October 5 was carried with only one objection.
The rescheduling became necessary due to the extended schedule of constituency conventions which will run from August 24 to October 12. 18 constituencies will be contested and another four feature endorsements of standard bearers.
The party further blames “disruptions” to the party’s schedule, specifically the cancellation of National Party Council (NPC) meetings on June 14 and July 12. These resulted in a truncated timeframe for the NC, prompting the Central Executive Committee to recommend a new date.
