Belize’s Eleazar Mejia honoured as 2nd Best Spiker at 2025 NORCECA U23 Pan American Volleyball Cup

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Eleazar Mejia of Belize earned continental recognition as he was named Second Best Spiker at the 2025 NORCECA Men’s Under-23 Pan American Cup, held from July 29 to August 3 at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City. Mejia’s standout performance placed him among the tournament’s elite, indicative of Belize’s growing footprint in international volleyball.

🏐 A Rising Star from Belize
Mejia delivered a consistent and powerful display throughout the six-day competition, anchoring Belize’s attacking line with precision and athleticism. His honour comes alongside top-tier athletes from volleyball powerhouses, including Carlos Eduardo Beroes of Venezuela, who took the First Best Spiker award.

🇧🇿 Team Belize Clinch Seventh Place
Belize finished seventh overall after defeating Suriname 3-2 (16–25, 25–14, 27–25, 22–25, 15–8) on Sunday, August 3, capping off a competitive campaign marked by determination and growth. Mejia’s accolade adds a bright note to the team’s journey, reinforcing their development on the international stage.

🥇 Dominican Republic Crowned Champions
The Dominican Republic claimed the gold medal with an unbeaten run, and setter Luke Harrison Ramírez was named Most Valuable Player. His teammate Adrián José Figueroa swept two titles—Best Opposite and Best Scorer—while Moisés Alexander Ortiz and Melvin de Jesús were recognised as Second Best Blocker and Best Server, respectively.

🥈 Individual Honours Across the Americas

  • United States: Cameron Thorne (Best Blocker), Nathan Flayter (Best Setter)
  • Venezuela: Carlos Eduardo Beroes (First Best Spiker)
  • Costa Rica: Oswaldo Chacón (Best Receiver)
  • Suriname: Roberto Benschop (Best Libero and Best Digger)

Mejía’s recognition marks an achievement not only for his personal career, but also for Belizean volleyball, affirming the country’s ability to produce athletes who can challenge and shine across the hemisphere.
