By Aaron Humes: Police say they have detained one person and are looking for two others in connection with Tuesday night’s killing of 20-year-old Justin Animo in Lords’ Bank, Belize District.
Commissioner of Police Dr Richard Rosado told reporters this afternoon that Animo and four others, including his 14-year-old younger brother, were socializing around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday when a motorcycle pulled up carrying two men. The passenger on the motorcycle opened fire with a small-caliber weapon, injuring all five, including Animo, who later died.
As for a motive, Dr Rosado indicated that police “are practically looking at several different theories and one of the theories is that it is domestically linked,” but declined to offer further details. He did confirm that Animo was the apparent intended target of the shooters, and the others were caught up in it.
The investigation has ruled out any gang involvement as none of the group are linked to gangs or have been arrested or detained by police. That investigation continues at this time.
