By Zoila Palma: The British High Commission in Belize announced that Alexia Peralta of Orange Walk Town has been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship and will soon head to the United Kingdom to pursue a Master of Science in Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
A champion of digital transformation and public service, Alexia has played a leading role in modernising Belize’s justice sector and advancing inclusive digital strategies through her work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Alexia previously served as the Director of Belize’s E-Governance and Digitalization Department, where she spearheaded national initiatives to improve digital public services and government innovation.
With over 8 years of experience in digital governance and policy reform, she is widely recognised for her efforts to promote equity, inclusion, and intergenerational empowerment through technology.
Beyond her professional achievements, Alexia is an active mentor and community advocate. She has mentored young women globally through the GovStack Women in GovTech Challenge and has promoted digital inclusion through the Girls in ICT initiative.
At home, she continues to support her community by volunteering with HelpAge Orange Walk.
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK government’s international awards programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
It offers future leaders the opportunity to study in the UK, build global networks, and develop the skills needed to drive positive change in their home countries.
