UDP demands urgent action as crime and sargassum crisis grip San Pedro

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Taegar Panton, is calling on the Government to take immediate action in response to what she calls two compounding crises on the island of San Pedro: a spike in violent crime and an environmental emergency caused by sargassum.
 
Panton said the people of San Pedro are frustrated, afraid, and desperate for leadership. She highlighted recent shootings, boat thefts, and gang violence that are threatening lives and livelihoods, while an uncontrolled sargassum invasion continues to cripple the island’s tourism-dependent economy.
 
“There has been no plan, no leadership, and no assurance,” she stated, demanding urgent deployment of security forces and a national emergency response for the environmental threat.
