By Aaron Humes: Michael Peyrefitte has resigned as Chairman of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for the second time, according to reports. Peyrefitte notified party leadership of his decision via WhatsApp, with mounting internal criticism over his handling of the party’s “reset” process.
Peyrefitte’s resignation follows Saturday’s National Party Council meeting at which resolutions were passed accepting all but one member not in good standing back into the party. But the meeting was conducted, according to critics, based on the wishes of Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow and not on a wider consensus.
With Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar-Panton formally rejecting the party’s offer for reconciliation, it appears it is back to square one as the chasm in the party appears unable to be bridged without significant compromise.
