By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being formally charged with rape.
Antwan Petillo, a resident of Jasmine Street and employee at a local bodyworks shop, was arraigned on Wednesday before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #2 on a single count of rape. The charge stems from an incident reported on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
According to police, a woman reported that she was raped around 2:30 a.m. in a parked vehicle near the corner of 9th Street and Newtown Barracks. The victim told police she had gone to Shisha’s Club to socialize with friends when she encountered Petillo—someone she knew personally—who then invited her to go for a walk. The two allegedly left the nightclub and entered a nearby vehicle, where the woman claims Petillo forcibly had sex with her.
Due to the seriousness of the charge, no plea was taken and bail was denied. Petillo, who appeared unrepresented in court, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September 2, 2025, when he is scheduled to return to court.
