By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Over 60 riders competed in four categories—Men Elites, Men Juniors, Men Masters, and Women—in the first-ever Burrell Boom Circuit Race and Community on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Racing Highlights
The day started strong with Irene Baki taking the win in the women’s race with a gutsy solo ride.
“Her determination and strength set the tone for the races to follow,” wrote cyclist and race participant Dwayne Wade, who helped organize the event.
In the Juniors race, Ahmaad Cherington edged out Keith Enwright Jr in a sprint finish. Wade described it as “an intense battle [that] thrilled spectators and highlighted the promising future of junior cycling in Belize.”
The Masters race saw Wade himself team up with veteran rider Kent “Bob” Gabourel for a dominant performance over seven laps. The duo’s experience and coordination earned them a well-deserved win—Wade in the 50+ and Gabourel the 40+. Kenneth ‘Dadz’ Butler won the 60+.
The Elite race capped off the day with a clean sweep by Team G-Flow, as Eric Trapp, Derrick Chavarria, and Jyven Gonzalez crossed the line in formation, showing off the kind of teamwork that wins races.
More Than Just a Race
Wade said the event wasn’t just about who crossed the finish line first. It was a full community effort. From the Burrell Boom Police Department to local sponsors, volunteers, and the Weekend Warriors Cycling Club, everyone pitched in to make the day a success.
