By Zoila Palma: San Pedro Town experienced the sharpest rise in consumer prices in May 2025, according to the latest data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
The municipality recorded an inflation rate of 3.4%, the highest in the country when compared to May 2024.
Residents of San Pedro faced notable price increases across a wide range of goods and services, including food and non-alcoholic beverages, restaurant and café services, household items, domestic and medical services, personal care products, and rental costs.
Meanwhile, Independence Village reported the lowest inflation rate, and was the only community to experience an overall decline in consumer prices, with a 2.3% drop year-over-year.
Households in Independence benefited from lower costs for food, fuel, clothing, alcoholic beverages, furniture, cell phones, personal care items, and jewelry.
