By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceño addressed global leaders at the 8th session of the SIDS DOCK Secretariat, held on the sidelines of the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France.
The focus of the session was the theme, “Critical Services SIDS Need from Ocean to Achieve SDGs 7, 9, 13 and 14 and to Strengthen Economic and Physical Resilience to Climate Change.”
“I delivered our remarks at the 8th session of the SIDS DOCK Secretariat,” Prime Minister Briceño shared. “The opening session was on the ‘Critical Services SIDS Need from Ocean to achieve SDGs 7, 9, 13 and 14 and to Strengthen Economic and Physical Resilience to Climate Change.’”
Alongside Andre Perez, Minister for the Blue Economy, Prime Minister Briceño also participated in a ministerial panel that included leaders from other Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The discussions centered on the role of ocean-based energy and innovation in sustainable development and climate action.
The session took place within the broader context of the Global Ocean Energy Alliance (GLOEA), a key initiative of UNOC3, which runs from June 9 to 13.
The conference brings together international stakeholders to advance marine renewable energy solutions for climate-vulnerable nations.
