By Zoila Palma: A national appeal has been launched to support Dr. Roque Blanco, a dedicated Belizean forensic pathologist, who is now facing a critical health crisis.
After decades of service in public safety and forensic medicine, Dr. Blanco has been diagnosed with end-stage renal failure and urgently needs a kidney transplant to survive.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, in collaboration with the Belize National Forensic Science Service, ILS Phoenix Corporation, the Kidney Association of Belize, and the Sub Umbra Floreo Lions Club, is calling on the public to assist in raising funds for the lifesaving procedure. The campaign encourages donations to help give Dr. Blanco the gift of life and a chance at recovery.
Dr. Blanco is one of only three forensic pathologists in the country and has served the Belizean public for over 20 years.
He began his career as a commissioned officer in the Belize Defence Force before transitioning to civilian service in the National Forensic Science Service.
His work has played a vital role in advancing criminal justice, legal medicine, and public safety.
He still has much to offer to his family and his country in terms of his profession and productivity.
