Emphasizing his memorable mantra—“No FARMER, NO FOOD” and “NO FOOD… NO LIFE”—he reminded the gathered Members of Parliament, CEOs, and Cabinet Secretaries that Belize’s agricultural future depends on sustainable practices.
Minister Mai reiterated the urgent need to produce, process, distribute, and consume food in ways that protect our land, water, and air. He warned that climate change is making food production more complex and expensive, citing examples such as the $5.1 million Screw Worm eradication budget over the next three years and a $12 million training management plan to control fusarium in the sugar industry. His call for “green production” resonated with the audience as he explained that integrating sustainable food systems is essential not only for ensuring current food security but also for safeguarding resources for future generations.
