By Zoila Palma: The National Drug Abuse Control Council (NDACC), under the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Corozal, joined communities worldwide today in observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025, taking a firm stand against the deceptive practices of the tobacco industry.
Under the global theme “Unmasking the Appeal,” this year’s campaign focused on exposing how tobacco and nicotine companies glamorize their products—particularly through flavoured vapes, attractive packaging, and covert sponsorships—to appeal to youth.
NDACC Corozal led a series of impactful activities, including school outreach sessions, youth-led presentations, and a vibrant community health fair, all aimed at raising awareness and empowering children to make informed, healthy choices.
The initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s long-standing mission to combat the global tobacco epidemic.
First observed in 1988, World No Tobacco Day highlights the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocates for effective policies to reduce consumption.
NDACC expressed gratitude to the students, teachers, parents, and community partners who supported the event, urging continued vigilance in protecting children from industry interference and promoting healthier futures.
