By Breaking Belize News Staff: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar Panton is calling on the Government of Belize to immediately reduce fuel prices, following a sharp drop in global oil prices.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Panton wrote, “The price of crude oil went from USD $90 a barrel to USD $62 a barrel. Lower the fuel prices!”
Panton’s statement comes at a time when many Belizeans are feeling the pressure of a rising cost of living, with fuel playing a key role in driving up transportation and food costs. She is now leading the charge in demanding that the Government pass on the savings to consumers.
Several social media users have echoed the Opposition Leader’s frustration, questioning why pump prices have not moved in line with global market trends.
To date, there has been no official statement from the Ministry of Finance on whether a price adjustment is being considered.
BBN will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
