By Zoila Palma: Authorities have arrested retired judge Lambertina Galeana Marín, accused of tampering with key evidence in the 2014 disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa.

Galeana, 79, was president of Guerrero’s Superior Tribunal of Justice when the students vanished.

She is suspected of ordering the destruction of security footage that could have revealed what happened at a crucial police roadblock, BBC reports.

The students, who were trainee teachers, disappeared in Iguala on September 26, 2014. Only three of their remains have been found.

A 2022 truth commission report concluded the incident was a state-sponsored crime involving police and a criminal gang.

Galeana was arrested nearly three years after a warrant was issued. She now faces charges of forced disappearance.
