By Breaking Belize News Staff: If you want a say in who runs your village council in 2025, now’s the time to check that your name is on the voters list.
The Elections and Boundaries Department is reminding the public that, under the Village Councils Elections (Amendment) Regulations 2022, you must be officially registered at least 30 days before the election date in your community to be eligible to vote.
This means there’s a hard deadline—miss it, and your voice won’t be heard.
The call is especially urgent in villages where elections will be held early in the schedule. If your name isn’t on the official list a month ahead of your village’s Election Day, you simply won’t be allowed to cast a vote.
Village and community council elections may not generate the same hype as general elections, but they directly impact everyday life in Belize’s rural areas—from managing community resources to advocating for infrastructure projects.
Belizeans are encouraged to contact the Elections and Boundaries Department to verify their registration status and ensure they’re listed correctly in the village they intend to vote in.
