By Zoila Palma:  Today, former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams assumed office as the new Chief Executive officer in the Ministry of Transport.

“My first day at my new office. It actually feels so good to be doing something different. I thank the PM, for the opportunity to apply my skills in another area of public service. I will certainly work diligently with Dr. Zabaneh and the other stakeholders holders to transform the transport industry,” Williams said.

Williams is Belize’s longest serving commissioner of Police and his leadership transformed the Belize Police Department, with a special focus on community policing, which flourished under his tenure.

Under his guidance, Belize experienced its lowest murder rate in two decades.
