By Breaking Belize News Staff: Glenford Herman Arnold, a 63-year-old resident of the Pickstock Hutment area on Northside, Belize City, has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy earlier this year.
Arnold was initially arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on February 18, 2025, facing charges of sexual assault and common assault against the minor, stemming from an incident in early February. He originally pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault charge but admitted guilt for common assault, claiming he only assaulted the boy during an altercation but did not touch him inappropriately. Due to a previous sexual assault conviction from 2023, Arnold was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
However, during a court hearing this week, Arnold changed his plea and admitted guilt to the sexual assault charge. Consequently, the Magistrate sentenced him to 12 months and 25 days for sexual assault and 3 months for common assault.
The court noted that the 3-month sentence for common assault was considered time served, as Arnold had been incarcerated since February. He now has 12 months and 25 days remaining on his sentence for the sexual assault conviction.
According to reports, the incident began with an altercation witnessed by a neighbour who saw Arnold pulling the boy and heard the child asking to be left alone. The neighbour intervened, and Arnold released the boy. Later, while the boy was fixing his mother’s screen door, he reported that Arnold approached him, asked for sex, and then inappropriately touched his chest and buttocks after the boy refused.
