By Zoila Palma: Sixteen farming organizations (FOs) across Belize have successfully completed training and capacity-building under the Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific Programme (FO4ACP), which officially concluded in the country today.
Launched in 2020, FO4ACP aimed to strengthen the sustainability and impact of farmers’ organizations by boosting incomes, improving livelihoods, and enhancing food and nutrition security for smallholder and family farmers across participating regions.
Belize was one of the Caribbean countries selected for the initiative.
Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, the program provided extensive technical support to farming cooperatives.
This included training in market access, improved production practices, and value addition, equipping organizations to better support their members and compete in evolving agricultural markets.
The Ministry praised the program’s success, noting that participating organizations are now better positioned to grow their operations, serve their communities, and contribute to national food security goals.
