By Breaking Belize News Staff: A police officer was arraigned on Friday evening in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his common-law wife.

Police Constable Jerome Locke Jr., 31, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 where he was read two criminal charges: harm and damage to property. The harm charge relates to an alleged physical assault on his 29-year-old common-law wife, while the damage charge concerns the destruction of ten glass cups valued at $29.85.

Locke, a resident of #4366 Fabers Road Extension, pleaded not guilty to both charges. He was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety, which he met later in the evening. Bail conditions include that he must not interfere with the virtual complainant and must stay at least 25 feet away from her. His next court date is scheduled for June 2, 2025.

The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, April 10, at a home on Locks Alley. According to the police report, the victim told authorities that she had left her 9-year-old daughter at home and returned to find the child missing. She later discovered through WhatsApp messages that PC Locke had taken the child without her knowledge or consent.

An argument reportedly ensued upon Locke’s return with the child, during which he allegedly struck her on the left side of her face. The altercation escalated, and when a family member tried to remove Locke from the home, he allegedly refused to leave. During the confrontation, he reportedly caused a refrigerator and microwave to shift, knocking over ten glass cups, which shattered on the ground.

The case is being closely monitored, given the involvement of a serving police officer in a domestic violence matter.
