By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sagitun GIRLZ shocked reigning champions Jewel Fury with a 3-0 victory at the Louisiana Football Field on Saturday, April 5, 2025, solidifying their place at the top of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) standings. Both teams entered the match tied at seven points, but Sagitun GIRLZ’s superior performance propelled them to sole possession of first place
Sagitun GIRLZ wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Kenya Perez opening the scoring in the 17th minute. She struck again in first-half stoppage time (45+2 minute), giving her team a comfortable lead heading into the break. Jolene Aranda sealed the victory with a well-placed goal in the 71st minute, ensuring Sagitun GIRLZ took sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Adding to the triumph, Aranda’s goal not only sealed the victory but also placed her tied as the league’s top goalscorer alongside Jewel Fury’s Khalydia Velasquez—both having seven goals to their credit. With the season heating up, the race for the league’s golden boot just got even more exciting.

The win solidifies Sagitun GIRLZ’s position at the top with ten points, extending their impressive goal tally to 16 goals scored and only 2 conceded, further strengthening their +14 goal difference. Meanwhile, Jewel Fury, who had previously held a +9 goal difference, will now need to regroup as they look ahead to the remainder of the season.

Week 4 action continued on Sunday, April 6, as Napoles FC dominated Cayo Dreamers with a decisive 9-0 victory at Santa Elena Sports Complex.
