By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s National Table Tennis team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, April 5, as they battled Guatemala in the Men’s Team Competition of the Central American Regional Senior Table Tennis Championships in San José, Costa Rica. Despite their best efforts, Belize fell 3-0, with all three individual matches ending in straight-set victories for Guatemala.
Match Results:
Sergio Carrillo (GUA) defeated Taye Parkinson (BIZ) – 11-3, 11-3, 11-1
Luis Ángel Carrillo Turcios (GUA) defeated Daryl Palacio (BIZ) – 11-4, 11-6, 11-4
Ian Morales (GUA) defeated Julian Aldana (BIZ) – 11-6, 11-1, 11-2
While Belize struggled against Guatemala’s strong lineup, the team remains focused and determined as they prepare for their next challenge. Later this evening, Belize will face El Salvador at 6:30 pm, looking to turn the tide and secure a victory in their second match of the team competition.
A Look at Belize’s Campaign So Far
Led by coach and delegate Nel Ayuso, Belize’s squad—composed of Taye Parkinson, Daryl Palacio, and Julian Aldana—has encountered fierce competition throughout the tournament. They previously competed in Men’s Singles and Doubles, with tough matchups against players from Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
