By Horace Palacio: A 17-year-old Belize City student narrowly escaped injury Monday night after being the target of a shooting near his home on Cannondale Drive.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. as the teen was walking home from McKay Boulevard. Police say he was approached by two men on bicycles, dressed in dark clothing. One of them reportedly got off his bike, pulled a firearm from his waistband, and fired multiple shots in the teen’s direction.
The youth ran into his yard and avoided being hit. Several bullets struck the lower flat of the two-storey house he shares with family. Police arriving at the scene observed multiple bullet holes on the structure and recovered expended shells from the yard.
Investigators canvassed the area, identifying nearby surveillance cameras and speaking to residents who provided useful information. The investigation continues.
