By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has released photographs of the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) in training ahead of their crucial Concacaf Gold Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica on Friday. The release comes amidst growing secrecy surrounding the BMNT roster, with fans still waiting for the final roster a little more than 24 hours before the match.
Head Coach Charlie Slusher said in a social media post on Wednesday that he has 23 players, but so far that’s practically all that has been said.
While the team has been working hard to prepare for the high-stakes showdown, several notable players will not be part of the squad, including Jordy Polanco, Nahjib Guerra, Moises Hernandez, and Charles Tillett. In particular, Tillett’s absence has drawn attention, as the FFB reportedly turned to veteran goalkeeper Woodrow West to fill the gap. However, West, who was previously dismissed from the team, did not remain due to an unconducive situation, leaving Head Coach Charlie Slusher to rely on less experienced goalkeepers, including junior players.
The secrecy surrounding the roster has raised eyebrows among fans and media alike, especially as the BMNT faces an imposing Costa Rican side in what could be a defining moment for Belizean football. With a mix of uncertainty and anticipation in the air, Friday night’s match is shaping up to be a thrilling and emotional encounter for the nation.
