By Aaron Humes, Mahogany Heights, Belize District: Going into the the teeth of the wildfire season, the village of Mahogany Heights in the Belize District is receiving help from conservationist organization Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

The new pump, based next to the police station, will serve as a key resource for fighting both brush and infrastructural fires in the area, after the worst season on record in 2024 scorched the entire countryside.

The local school also receives a 1,320-gallon water tank to reduce time lost for educators because water supply is not available.

Funding was provided by the British High Commission and UK Government through the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund.
