By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belmopan secured an agonizing 3-2 victory over Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga during Week 9 of the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship.
In a late scoring match, Wagiya hit first in the 72nd minute with a goal from Jhon Valencia, but Belmopan quickly equalized in the 73rd minute through Wilfredo Galvez. Wagiya regained the lead in the 87th minute with a strike from Eddy Perez, but Belmopan staged a dramatic comeback. Morvin Budna scored in the 90th minute to level the match, and Wilfredo Galvez sealed the win with a penalty in stoppage time in the 90’ +3.
Wagiya remain at the bottom of the table with 2 points, while Belmopan leap to fourth place with 10 points. However, Belmopan’s playoff fate is far from secure, as they face a tough challenge against Verdes FC in their final match on March 29, following the international break for Belize’s Gold Cup Prelims qualifiers against Costa Rica.
