By Aaron Humes: A late-night robbery on Saturday has left two young women shaken, but swift police action led to the apprehension of four suspects involved in the incident.
Around 9:20 PM, police received reports of a robbery on Perez Street in Santa Elena Town. The victims reported that they were approached by two masked men. One of the assailants, dressed in a grey sweater and blue jeans, brandished a silver and black gun and demanded they hand over their belongings, which included two brown Coach purses containing money, makeup, and identification cards. The second perpetrator, dressed in a blue shirt, stole jewelry from the victims before they fled toward a waiting dark taxi on Edward Juan Street.
Police patrolling nearby observed a black Geo Prizm taxi with License Plate number D01463 and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle was successfully intercepted on Edward Juan Street, where four male occupants were found inside. Two of the suspects attempted to escape but were captured, while the others reportedly tried to alter their clothing to avoid detection.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle, uncovering a silver and black nine-millimeter Zigana pistol with an extended magazine containing nine live rounds, as well as the stolen Coach purses
All individuals were unable to produce a valid firearm license and were subsequently detained for further questioning. They were escorted to the San Ignacio Police Station, along with the seized firearm, which was tagged for evidence processing. The total value of the stolen items has been estimated at approximately $2,185.
