By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize District’s Belize Elementary School (BES) girls emerged as the new champions of the National Primary Schools Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Toledo Sports Auditorium in Punta Gorda, Toledo. With last year’s champions, the Holy Redeemer girls, not qualifying for the national tournament this year, the path is clear for new champions.
Organized by the Belize National Sports Council, the national championship featured the top volleyball talent from 12 primary schools across the country. In a riveting final match, the Belize District BES girls secured their place as the new national champions by defeating Cayo representatives, Santa Elena Primary with scores of 25-15 and 25-23.
Santa Elena Primary fought hard but ultimately settled for second place.
Third place went to Stann Creek’s Holy Angels after a tightly contested match against Toledo Christian Academy (TCA) with scores of 22-25, 26-24, and 15-10.
MVP of the tournament, Sarah El Turk from BES, was instrumental in her team’s success, leading them to the national championship.
The BES girls have set a high bar for future competitions, leaving fans eagerly anticipating next year’s tournament.
