By Zoila Palma: In honor of Women’s Month, the Belizean community shines a spotlight on Juliet Marie Requena Moguel, a visionary educator whose dedication to teaching has shaped the lives of countless students over the past 38 years.
A passionate advocate for education, Juliet’s journey began at the age of 10 when she envisioned becoming a teacher—not for the typical reasons, but driven by a deep desire to inspire, motivate, and encourage her future students to reach their fullest potential.
Raised in the close-knit community of San Ignacio, Juliet was nurtured by her extended family, including her mother, Delia Luna, and her siblings, Patricia Requena Lopez, Dorial Luna, and Alia Arnold Johnson.
Her formative years at Sacred Heart Primary School left a lasting impression, with teachers such as Mrs. Alberta Cano, Mrs. Amira Estrada, Mrs. Josephine Chulin, Ms. Ninette Galvez, and Mr. Antonio Pacheco laying the foundation for her educational journey.
Juliet continued her academic pursuits at Sacred Heart College, where influential educators such as Mr. Ismael Garcia, Mr. Richard Harrison, Mr. Ricardo Canto, and Dr. Deborah Mencias McMillian helped shape her path.
Their guidance fueled her passion for education and motivated her to pursue higher education, eventually earning an Associate Degree in Primary Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education, and a Master’s Degree in Teacher Education. Juliet’s academic journey is complemented by her role as a Justice of the Peace, demonstrating her commitment to serving both her profession and community.
Juliet’s career in education began in 1986, when she first joined the staff at Sacred Heart Primary School, where she taught until 2007.
Her impact, however, extends far beyond the classroom. She is currently an Education Lecturer and Internship Coordinator at Sacred Heart Junior College and an adjunct lecturer at Galen University. In these roles, Juliet takes great pride in shaping the next generation of teachers, equipping them with the skills to meet the diverse needs of learners in an ever-changing world.
Juliet is not only a dedicated educator but also a loving wife to John Moguel, a proud mother to Dr. Anya Moguel, Dr. Ivanya Moguel, and Jervis Moguel (a realtor at Century 21), and a devoted grandmother to Alara Martinez. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending quality time with her family.
In everything she does, Juliet embodies the words of her favorite quote by Mahatma Gandhi: “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Her life and career are a testament to the power of education and the unwavering dedication of women like Juliet who inspire and lead by example.
As we celebrate Women’s Month, we honor Juliet Marie Requena Moguel for her lifelong commitment to education, her impact on the Belizean community, and her role in empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
