By Breaking Belize News Staff: A young couple found themselves before the court after a heated domestic dispute resulted in both being charged with aggravated assault. The incident, which took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at their home in Belize City and led to their arrest by police responding to the scene.
The couple has been identified as Timbert Meyers, 21, a delivery assistant, and PJanna Staine, 20, a cashier, both residents of the same address. They appeared late Monday in Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where they were read separate charges of aggravated assault. Both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount, which they met. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 5, 2025, in Court #6.
According to the report filed by Meyers, he and Staine were arguing when she accused him of infidelity. As he attempted to leave, Staine allegedly slammed the door on his fingers. The altercation escalated when Staine reportedly grabbed a knife and attempted to stab him. Meyers claimed that after disarming her, she then retrieved an ice pick hidden between her breasts and tried to stab him in the throat. Police intervened and arrested Staine for aggravated assault.
However, Staine provided a different account to authorities. She reported that Meyers threatened her with a knife, standing three feet away and saying, “I wah jack up yuh if yuh no go.” She also accused him of stealing her black iPhone XR, valued at $700, refusing to return it because, according to her, Meyers told her they were breaking up and she did not deserve anything he had bought for her.
Initially, Meyers was charged with theft, but before his court appearance, the charge was withdrawn. Both individuals now face aggravated assault charges and will return to court in May.
