By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclist Derrick Chavarria is currently competing in the final stage of the 46th Vuelta Ciclística Independencia Nacional in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Sunday, March 2, 2025. After a series of impressive performances throughout the tour, Chavarria aims to improve his overall ranking and solidify his position in both the General Classification and the Under-23 category.
Chavarria, who is riding for Team Phoenix International Cayman, is the team’s best-ranked cyclist. His best performance so far was winning Stage 5 on Friday in a six-man sprint.
In Stage 6 on Saturday, Chavarria finished seventh with a time of two hours, 54 minutes, and 16 seconds. This performance earned him nine points in the points competition, bringing his total to 51 points and securing him the second position behind leader Alberto Ramos.
In the Under-23 category, Chavarria has steadily climbed the ranks, moving from seventh to second place, just behind Santiago Cardona from Team HYF Footwear. His determination and skill have also propelled his team to the 12th position in the overall team rankings.
As the race reaches its climax, all eyes are on Chavarria to see if he can further elevate his standings. The final stage covers 112 kilometres, and Chavarria’s fans eagerly anticipate his performance.
