By Zoila Palma: Personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation, and farmers from San Carlos recently visited Manantiales Farm in Poptún to observe the potato harvesting process.
The visit provided an opportunity to witness the use of machinery in harvesting and learn about post-harvest handling techniques.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the farm proceeded with the demonstration, allowing participants to gain valuable insights into their harvesting practices.
During the visit, discussions focused on management strategies and technologies to improve yields, particularly through mechanization.
The Ministry noted that the Belize delegation also met potato producers from Xelajú, Guatemala, who were at the farm to transport the harvested potatoes.
They shared their experiences in potato production, supported by videos and pictures showcasing their operations.
