Elections and Boundaries confirms 90 candidates in 29 constituencies for March 12 general elections

By Aaron Humes: On Tuesday evening, the Elections and Boundaries Commission reported that 90 candidates will contest 29 seats in the forthcoming general elections now due on March 12.

It confirms that no other candidates were nominated by 4 p.m. on Nomination Day in the Pickstock and Fort George constituencies, confirming incumbents Anthony Mahler and Henry Charles Usher were duly returned as area representatives and will not face election on March 12.

The candidate list includes 25 candidates for Moses “Shyne” Barrow and 15 for Tracey Taegar-Panton all under the banner of the United Democratic Party (UDP) as well as Anthony Boots Martinez in Port Loyola.

Other parties and movements participating are Belize Justice Movement, 7; Good Opportunity Development Party, 1; Peoples’ National Party, 2; People’s Democratic Party, 4; and four Independent candidates.
