By Zoila Palma: The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) and the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) have signed a strategic partnership agreement to boost the management of Belize’s protected areas.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Sustainable Development’s Auditorium in Belmopan.
As part of the agreement, PACT will provide BZ$319,000 in funding to support APAMO’s initiatives aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of community-based organizations (CBOs) managing protected areas.
The focus areas include financial management, training, public awareness, and administrative support.
Dr. Kenrick Williams, Chairman of PACT’s Board of Directors, emphasized the partnership’s importance, stating, “It is about securing Belize’s biodiversity, supporting the communities that depend on these ecosystems, and promoting a model of conservation that is inclusive, sustainable, and community-driven.”
Since its founding in 2007, APAMO has been a key partner in supporting sustainable development in protected areas across Belize. Today’s agreement reaffirms PACT’s commitment to strengthening the role of local organizations in conservation.
