By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U-20 Belize Women’s National Football Team (BWNT) will face Guyana on Friday, February 21, at 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize time) as Group A action kicks off in the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Qualifiers.
The team, led by Head Coach Wayne Casimiro, trained on Thursday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Technical Center in St. John’s. The U-20 BWNT is missing Elva Nunes, who is on a scholarship at Motlow College in Nashville, Tennessee. Nunes is a key player and will be missed by the U20 BWNT.
The Belize U-20 team departed Belize on Monday, heading first to Cancun. From Cancun, they took a flight on Tuesday to Miami, where they spent the night. On Wednesday, the team continued their journey, flying to St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, where the qualifiers will be held.
Match Schedule for Team Belize:
- Friday, February 21, 2025: Belize vs. Guyana @ 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize)
- Sunday, February 23, 2025: Belize vs. Haiti @ 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize)
- Tuesday, February 25, 2025: Belize vs. Antigua and Barbuda @ 3:00 pm (1:00 pm Belize)
Only the group winners will qualify for the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship. The qualifiers feature six groups competing simultaneously in four different venues. The six group winners will join Mexico and the United States, who have already qualified for the regional championship due to their top rankings.
The Belize U-20 women’s squad is determined to give their best performance in their scheduled matches.
