By Zoila Palma: On March 12, 2025, voters in Cayo Northeast will head to the polls to choose their next Area Representative.
Incumbent Orlando “Landy” Habet is seeking re-election, but challenger Albert Fernandez is hoping to unseat him.
Habet, who has served both at the municipal and national levels, has been the Area Representative for Cayo Northeast since 2015.
He is well-regarded for his commitment to infrastructure development in the area, believing it to be key to improving access to markets for local produce and crops.
As Minister of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Habet has also advocated for sustainable development practices.
Known for his strong work ethic and quiet leadership, he promises to continue focusing on providing equal opportunities in employment, housing, health, education, and market access for residents of his division.
In contrast, Fernandez, whose political legacy includes his father Salvador Fernandez, a four-time Area Representative, and his mother Bernadette Fernandez, a successful councilor, is drawing on his family’s strong political roots.
Fernandez is committed to addressing the high cost of living in the country and promises to work hard for the people of Cayo Northeast.
With election day fast approaching, the race between Habet’s experienced leadership and Fernandez’s promises of change will be one to watch.
