By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville resident is out on bail after being charged with handling stolen goods in connection to a missing motorcycle.
Ashton Keeron Garbutt, 23, of Lords Bank, appeared before a Magistrate in Court #5 this morning, where he was read a single charge of handling stolen goods. The allegation is that on January 15, 2025, he knowingly assisted in the retention of a Meilun motorcycle valued at $3,200, the property of Cecilia Rivera.
Initially, Garbutt pleaded guilty but later requested a sentencing indication before proceeding. The Magistrate advised him to seek legal advice before finalizing his plea. When questioned, Garbutt admitted that he suspected the motorcycle was stolen but claimed he did not know who had stolen it. He stated that he had found the cycle abandoned in the bush by the river.
With no objection to bail, the Magistrate granted him bail of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount or two sureties of $1,000 each, which he was able to meet.
Garbutt is scheduled to return to court on April 2, 2025.
