By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Belmopan FC at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday in Week 3 of thePremier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Championship. The match was a thrilling encounter, with both teams displaying impressive skill and determination.
Belmopan FC took an early lead with a goal from Yrider Olivares in the 8th minute. However, the San Pedro Pirates quickly responded, with Jaheim Mena equalizing in the 11th minute. The match remained tightly contested until the 88th minute when Bryan Sanchez scored the winning goal for the Pirates, sealing their victory.
This win marks the San Pedro Pirates’ second victory of the season. Meanwhile, Belmopan FC suffered their third consecutive loss but showed more competitiveness in this match.
In the only other match, Verdes defeated Wagiya 2-0 at Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga. The match between Port Layola and Progresso FC, scheduled for Sunday at the Marion Jones Sports Complex, was postponed due to a shooting incident at the venue on Friday.
Verdes have now won their third straight match and lead the championship alone with nine points, as Port Layola didn’t play.
