By Horace Palacio: A fatal shooting in Belize City has left one man dead and three others injured, prompting a police investigation into the violent attack.
Authorities responded to a gunfire report at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025. Upon arrival, they observed four victims suffering from gunshot wounds:
- Brandon Augustus Baptist, 39 – later pronounced dead
- John Grinage, 37 – hospitalized in stable condition
- Cameron Williams, 21 – treated and released
- Herson Mena, 26 – remains hospitalized
Reports indicate that the attack occurred during a football game, and authorities are working to determine whether the victims were targeted or if this was a random act of violence. Investigators are gathering surveillance footage and witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
Police have not yet released details on potential suspects or a motive. However, given the recent rise in gun violence in Belize City, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
