By Zoila Palma: A member of the Sinaloa cartel was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in El Paso, Texas, over the weekend, sources confirmed, FOX reports.
The individual, a Mexican national, was found with three rifles, two pistols, and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
The arrest is part of a broader ICE operation across the U.S., which resulted in more than 1,000 arrests.
This comes amid increasing concerns over the flow of fentanyl and methamphetamine into the U.S. from Mexico, with the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels being central to the crisis.
DEA Administrator Anne Milgram recently highlighted that the cartels operate secret labs in Mexico to manufacture drugs, using sophisticated networks to smuggle them across the U.S. border, including via tunnels.
The arrest follows the recent extradition of alleged Sinaloa cartel leader Octavio Leal-Hernandez, who faces federal charges for trafficking drugs into the U.S.
Reports also suggest the Trump administration is pushing ICE to increase its daily arrests from several hundred to between 1,200 and 1,500 people, with sources noting these as “goals” rather than quotas.
