By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 17 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) are gearing up for their first match in the 2025 CONCACAF Women’s U17 Qualifiers today, Monday, January 27. The team, which traveled to Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday, will be competing in Group B against hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Honduras, and the US Virgin Islands. Five other groups are competing simultaneously.
The U17 BWNT, led by Head Coach Joseph Waight, will kick off their campaign against Honduras today at 5:00 pm (3:00 pm Belize time) at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
The schedule for Belize’s matches is as follows:
- Monday, January 27, 2025: Belize vs. Honduras @ 5:00 pm (3:00 pm Belize)
- Wednesday, January 29, 2025: Belize vs. Trinidad and Tobago @ 8:00 pm (6:00 pm Belize)
- Friday, January 31, 2025: Belize vs. US Virgin Islands @ 5:00 pm (3:00 pm Belize)
The six group winners and the two best runners-up will advance to the next round, where they will join the top four teams, namely the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Haiti, in April-May 2025 for the CONCACAF Championship. The Top Four from that tournament will earn a berth in the U17 World Cup to be held in Morocco this year.
The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) expressed their confidence in the team’s abilities and highlighted the significance of this international exposure for the growth of women’s football in Belize.
As the U17 BWNT takes to the field today, the nation stands behind them, hoping for a strong start to their qualifying campaign.
