By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Minister of Education Francis Fonseca chaired the first-ever education stakeholders meeting, bringing together the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU), Managing Authorities of primary and secondary schools, and key service units of the Ministry of Education.
The meeting aimed to address challenges within the education system while fostering improved communication and collaboration on issues affecting educators, students, and school managements.
Key participants include Nadia Caliz, President of the BNTU, along with her team; Dian Maheia, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry Yolanda Gongora, Chief Education Officer Cecilia Ramirez-Smith, Deputy Chief Education Officer; Dr. Leroy Almendarez, CEO of the Social Security Board Teresita Miranda, Accountant General; and Shirlene Coote, Deputy Director General, Belize Tax Services.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step forward in strengthening Belize’s education system.
