By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded Tuesday to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders, emphasizing that her government will defend the country’s sovereignty and independence, Reuters report.
She reassured Mexicans that while her administration seeks dialogue with the U.S., it will prioritize national interests.
Sheinbaum expressed concern over Trump’s measures to curb migration, stressing a humanitarian approach while pledging to repatriate foreign migrants.
She also highlighted the need for coordinated efforts on security and trade, especially as the U.S. may impose tariffs and designate Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations.
Despite a brief recovery in the peso, the Mexican currency continued to struggle against global counterparts.
Sheinbaum reiterated her government’s commitment to revising trade agreements in 2026 and defending Mexico’s people.
